Check requirements for the apostille

There are 2 types of apostille.

Paper -Based Apostille

Paper -Based Apostille

A paper-based apostille means the apostille certificate will be physically affixed (glued or stapled) to the back of your original document. This is the standard format issued by the UK Legalisation Office.

⚠️ Tampering with or removing the apostille may render the document invalid.

Paper-based - you’ll need to send your documents by post or drop off them in person.

Electronic - known as an ‘e-Apostille’

Electronic - known as an ‘e-Apostille’

An electronic apostille, also known as an e-Apostille, is a digitally issued apostille certificate that is attached to an electronic version of your document (usually in PDF format).

  • it is digitally signed and sealed by the UK Legalisation Office.
  • The entire document (incl the apostille) is delivered by email as a secure digital file.
  • Suitable for documents that will be used in countries that accept e-Apostilles under the Hague Convention.

✅ e-Apostilles offer faster processing and are easy to share electronically.

⚠️ Always check with the receiving authority to confirm they accept e-Apostilles.
