If your document has been certified by a Solicitor or Notary Public, please ensure that they:

• Hold a valid UK practising certificate
• Signed the document in the UK
  ⚠️ Note: Documents signed inside Embassies located in the UK are considered as signed in a foreign jurisdiction and may be rejected
• Used their personal signature (not a company or firm signature)
• Clearly printed their name and full business address
• Included their seal (if applicable)
  
  If using an embossed seal, the impression must go through the page and be visible on both sides
  
• Dated the certification
• Clearly stated the action taken, such as:
  -Certified as a true copy
  -Confirmed as an original
  -Witnessed signature, etc.

⚠️Important – Signature Registration with the FCDO

If your documents have already been certified by a Solicitor or Notary Public, please also check whether their signature is registered with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

This can be confirmed by asking the Solicitor or Notary Public directly.

Please note that under no circumstances can we accept photocopies of UK birth/death/marriage/civil partnership/adoption certificates, nor can we accept photocopies of police/disclosure certificates issued by ACRO, Disclosure Scotland, Access NI or DBS. This includes photocopies of these documents attached to other documents or under a certified cover page.

⚠️ Photocopies Not Accepted by FCDO:

Please be aware that the Foreign, Commonwealth &
Development Office (FCDO) will reject photocopies of the following
documents, whether submitted on their own or as part of a bundle.

Original documents must be provided in these cases:

• ACRO Police Certificate
• DBS Certificate
• Marriage Certificate
• Birth Certificate
• Death Certificate
• Civil Partnership Certificate
• Certificate of No Impediment
• Disclosure Scotland Certificate
• Fingerprints Document
• Gender Recognition Certificate
• Letter of No Trace

Sending a photocopy of any of the above will result in rejection and delays, so please double-check that you are submitting the original version or that the photocopy is removed from the bundle (if applicable).

If you are submitting a document that has been signed by a medical practitioner, please include contact details for the signatory within your application, including their email address and place of practice.
This is essential should we need to contact them to verify their signature.

⚠️ Important – Signature Registration with FCDO:

If your documents have been signed by a Doctor, please also check whether their signature is registered with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). This can be confirmed by asking your Doctor.

If their signature is not yet registered, we can assist with this process. Please contact us by email or phone and our team will be happy to help.

Please ensure that all education certificates presented for legalisation are signed, certified and dated by a UK solicitor or notary public, or by an official of the British Council. If certified by the British Council then it must be an original educational qualification certificate, please check with your local British Council first as this service is not available at all locations.

If you are submitting an original marriage certificate that has been signed by a Minister of Religion or an Authorised Person, please include contact details for either the signatory or the location the ceremony was held, including their email address. This is essential should we need to contact them to verify the signature.

We are unable to legalise laminated or hard-backed documents as it is not possible to securely attach the apostille certificate. In order to legalise the document, the laminate or hard backing will need to be removed, or a replacement document will need to be obtained without these features.

Where documents contain multiple pages, all the pages must be included when submitting the document for legalisation. All pages referenced by a certification must be submitted. Incomplete documents will not be accepted.
