What is a V5C Logbook Apostille?

A V5C Vehicle Registration Certificate (also known as a logbook) is issued by the UK’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
It proves ownership and registration details for a vehicle.

You may need a V5C logbook apostille for:

  • Exporting a vehicle overseas

  • Registering a UK vehicle abroad

  • Customs clearance in another country

  • Selling a vehicle internationally

Why You Need an Apostille for a V5C Logbook

Many countries require your V5C to be legalised with an apostille before accepting it for import, registration, or customs.
The apostille confirms the authenticity of the DVLA-issued document so it can be recognised in Hague Apostille Convention member countries.

Can I Legalise a V5C Logbook?

✅ Yes — V5C logbooks are accepted for apostille legalisation.
✅ If you do not have the original, you can legalise a certified copy — but it must be certified by a UK solicitor or notary public before FCDO submission.

Apostille Requirements

To avoid delays, your V5C must meet these conditions:

  • Original or certified copy – photocopies, scans, or PDFs are only accepted if they are certified by a UK solicitor or notary public.

  • Your V5C logbook must be issued by the DVLA.

  • Certified copies must clearly show the solicitor’s or notary’s signature, stamp, and date.

Acceptable Formats

  • ✔ Your original V5C document signed by a DVLA official

  • ✔ A photocopy or printout of your V5C document certified by a UK solicitor or notary public

  • ❌ Uncertified photocopies or scans

Embassy Attestation (If Required)

If your destination country is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, embassy attestation may also be required after the apostille.
We can arrange:

  • Embassy attestation

  • Certified translations

  • Document scanning (PDF)
